Yoga for birth preparation – learning yoga based techniques to support you and your baby as you welcome them into the world
We’re proud to provide pre and postnatal yoga at our studio and find a lot of joy in supporting mothers to be and new mothers on their journey. We also know the sheer power harnessed in every pregnant woman’s body to support herself through the process, however their baby comes into the world.
We want to provide women and their birthing partners with some unique, tried and tested tools so that, when the time comes, they have different things to provide them support, reassurance and hopefully some comfort.
This April we are providing a dedicated Yoga for Birth Preparation workshop to do just that. Read on below to get an idea of what the workshop will cover.
There’s power in the breath
Our breath is a major tool in our armoury when it comes to birth. If used effectively, the way we breathe can support our body and our baby – it can provide a sense of calm and perspective as well as relax and open the body and effectively guide the baby out into the world.
On the contrary, if our focus is shifted our breath can become restricted resulting in tightness, fatigue and exhaustion.
The techniques available in our workshop are simple and often feel totally natural so it won’t take much effort to call upon them in times of need. As we are practicing them with birth partners included, the benefits will be passed on to them to enjoy and they can also be the guide for you when the time comes.
A calmer state of mind
There are many times in life when our state of mind can have a huge influence on the outcome of a scenario. If we approach a situation with a negative, limited and narrow perspective, chances are the outcome won’t be the one we desired. And with the birthing process often being highly unpredictable perspective is everything!
We often hear students say that Prenatal Yoga enabled them to learn to properly relax, calm their mind and experience what that relief feels like. The more that we strengthen this ability the more frequently it can become our state of being.
You and your birthing partner will have the chance to learn relaxation techniques together so that they can support you with these outside of the studio.
Some mothers, if they are able to, will adopt different positions as their birth progresses. These will often feel natural and instinctual.
We will break down an array of different asanas (physical poses) in this workshop which will support the birthing process, encouraging the baby into an optimal position and allowing the pelvis to open and relax. And just as above, birthing partners will be included in this – the more you can start practicing together, the better.
WHEN: 14th April 10:30-12:30
This workshop is suitable for all stages of pregnancy and will cost £50 for one x pregnant lady and one x birthing partner. Book your space here.
