What is fascial release & yin yoga?
Ahead of our eagerly anticipated Yin Fascial Yoga – Roll & Release workshop with Dominique Preston on 19th October 2-5pm we have put together some info to explain what this means and why it’s the PERFECT combination!
Simply put fascia is the connective tissue that holds, binds and seams us together and IT IS LITERALLY EVERYWHERE! It weaves through, around and inbetween every part of us and is what holds our body together. It wraps around organs to support and protect, it gives us our tension and spring, and it is a communication system that is constantly providing us with sensory information. It forms as collagenous/elastine fibres that form a spiderweb-like body stocking. It allows our muscles, tendons, bones etc to slide and glide freely around each other.
Fascia like any other part of the body can and does degenerate. It can become rigid, knotty, stuck or dehydrated so we lose our mobility, range of motion and perhaps become a little desensitized in some areas of our body.
Fascia loves pressure and movement, stretching, rolling, massaging and a little bit of heat. In this session we’ll be working with tennis balls and blocks to get into those knotty spots, those ‘trigger point’ areas and help the tissues of the body to unravel and unwind and get the body moving again. We’ll practice some fluid movement, honoring the fluidity within us all, and we’ll get into all of those typical tension areas including feet, back, neck and shoulders and probably the hips and bum too!
We also hold traditional yin postures for a few minutes at a time to help stimulate the tissues in a slightly different way and help settle the monkey mind – it’s the perfect combination!
You can book a space on our workshop here for the self investment of £30 – see you there!
